‘Texis’ will arrive on September 10 via Lucky Number and feature the newly shared first single, Locust Laced, which deals in bright, upbeat tones, with pop-leaning vocals from Alexis Krauss, which contrast with dark lyrics and abrasive metal riffs.
It comes paired with a Western-themed video directed by Miller and Kills Birds’ Nina Ljeti, streaming below. “We stopped worrying about whether or not we’re in or out of our comfort zone, or if we were being repetitive or formulaic,” guitarist Derek Miller said.
“The thing I’m most attracted to is the juxtaposition of happy and sad, melancholy and hope. A lot of this is about trying to hold on to a shred of optimism through sheer force of will, and I hope this music can give people some joyful energy and confidence.”
It’s the noise-pop duo’s first full-length since 2016’s ‘Jessica Rabbit’, and their first new material since their ‘Kid Kruschev’ EP, released the following year. They’ll support it with a previously announced 30-date North American headline run between this October and February 2022.
