Tom Hardy will not just take the lead in Let There Be Carnage, as the Eddie Brock star has also taken on a role behind the scenes for the Venom sequel.
Ahead of Venom 2’s release later this year, which will see Hardy reprise his role as Brock and his alien Symbiote alter-ego, screenwriter Kelly Marcel has revealed that an additional story credit will go to the actor.
Revealing Hardy’s first foray into writing, Marcel told Empire that his upcoming ‘Story By’ credit makes total sense.
“This is new for him, to get credit. But it’s not new for him to be this involved,” she explained.
“He’s absolutely 100 percent committed to everything that he does. He’s married to Venom. He loves this character. He’s very involved in what he thinks should happen.”
Sharing an insight into the pair’s writing process, Kelly Marcel said that while Tom didn’t pick up a pen “and write” as you might expect, he did spend a lot of time building his character’s story over video calls.
“He doesn’t get a pen and write. We spent months breaking the story together on FaceTime, riffing on ideas, seeing what worked, seeing what didn’t,” she said.
“Then I took everything we spoke about and holed up somewhere for three months quietly, knocking out a script.”
Sounds like Tom has developed a symbiotic relationship with his character. Fitting, really.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage arrives in cinemas on September 15.
