Barcelona Is Concerned About This Situation Of Blockage

FC Barcelona has already added three incorporations – Kun Agüero, Eric García and Emerson -, with options of two more next week (Depay and Wijnaldum), but they have not yet made a single exit. A totally unsustainable situation in such an unbalanced and voluminous workforce, both at the level of personnel and financial burden.

This situation worsens, even more if possible, in the defensive line, and more specifically in the payroll of centrals. The squad currently has six centrals: Gerard Piqué, Ronald Araújo, Óscar Mingueza, Eric García, Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet. The imbalance can be seen not only in the exorbitant number of centrals but also in the total imbalance in the positions: there are four right centrals (Piqué, Araújo, Mingueza and Eric) and two left (Umtiti and Lenglet).

A hard work awaits Mateu Alemany and Ronald Koeman to convince in some cases, or directly force others, to pack their bags. The last one to make it clear that he will not move from Barça has been Frenchman Clement Lenglet, who in an interview on ‘Eurosport’ has categorically confirmed that “I don’t see myself leaving; I will continue at Barcelona next season ”, while praising Koeman’s role within the team,“ he did a good job in his first year ”.

Before Lenglet, another Frenchman, Samuel Umtiti, has already hinted through his agents that he does not intend to leave the club this summer. The latter has been a headache for the club, both due to his millionaire record, 12 million euros gross, and the difficulties in finding a way out, due to his problems with injuries.

With the numbers and the calculator in hand, the club has at least two centers left over. Taking into account the youth and projection of both Mingueza and Araújo, and that Eric has just landed at the club, the other name that could enter the casualty list is Gerard Piqué. Against him is his age, 34 years old, and his high record, 16 million euros gross, but in his favor he has his indisputable leadership and role in the team, as well as being an essential piece for the Dutch coach.

In any case, it is clear that between Piqué, Umtiti and Lenglet, at least one or two will have to leave the club. Otherwise, Barcelona would start a new project with a distorted and unbalanced squad in every way.
