Barcelona Is Underway, With The Hierarchy Looking To Try And Resolve The Extensive Financial Difficulties That The Club Face

As a result, club president Joan Laporta and director of football Mateu Alemany are allowing nothing to prevent them from carrying out their objectives and are taking a particularly hard line on players who are not accepting the conditions that they have outlined.

The recission of Matheus’ contract`

The first major example of this hard line occurred when Matheus Fernandes was released from his contract after being unwilling to accept a move away from the club.

Whilst Barcelona now face a legal battle, with the player ready to sue, they have shown that they are prepared to take serious action to achieve their objectives.

Their actions towards Miralem Pjanic and Samuel Umtiti have differed slightly, as the players were offered the option to be released, with the club unable to accommodate their high wages.

Although both players refused this option, they have now accepted that their futures lie away from Barcelona and will leave this summer.

Although Umtiti had been determined to remain at the club, he is now ready to move away on loan in this transfer window.

Pjanic’s departure

From early on in his Barcelona career, Pjanic knew that as long as Ronald Koeman was at the club his opportunities would be extremely limited.

Now, he is ready to leave the Camp Nou this summer, although it will be difficult to complete a move away given his high wages.

Ilaix Moriba has become the latest victim of the hard-line approach of Barcelona’s hierarchy, as he has been made to train with the B team after rejecting a new contract, as he believes that he deserves to earn higher wages than what the club are offering.

Now, he will train with the B team until he signs a new contract, and this situation looks set to have a complex solution.

The club face an entirely different situation with Ousmane Dembele. Had he not been injured at Euro 2020 and then returned to Barcelona without a desire to sign a new contract or leave this summer, the club were ready to leave him on the bench without playing.

However, following his serious knee injury in France’s match against Hungary, the situation is now a mystery.
