With more than a month’s notice, LaLiga has released the schedules for the first matchday of the 2021-22 season. Football will return on Fridays and Mondays.
LaLiga Santander has everything in place for the kick-off of the 2021-22 season. Once the whole calendar has been drawn, the organisation of the Spanish football elite has announced how the first day of the competition will be distributed.
Football officially returns to Fridays and Mondays after LaLiga defeated the Royal Spanish Football Federation in court. At the end of June, the Provincial Court ruled and urged the RFEF to “cease its conduct” against LaLiga.
With the fixtures for the first round of Primera División matches already known, the season will kick off on Friday 13 August at 21.00 with the match between Valencia and Getafe at Mestalla.
On Saturday 14, there will be four matches in three different time slots. At 17.00, Osasuna-Espanyol will be played, while at 19.30, Mallorca-Betis and Cádiz-Levante will take place. The day will end with Alavés-Real Madrid at 22.00.
Sunday 15 August will not follow the same pattern as Saturday, with Celta-Atlético de Madrid at 17.30 and Barcelona-Real Sociedad at 20.00 hours.
Later still, at 22.15, Sunday’s matchday will end with Sevilla-Rayo Vallecano at the Sánchez Pizjuán stadium. The first matchday will be rounded off with two matches on Monday 16 August. Villarreal-Granada will kick off at 20.00 and Elche-Athletic will kick off at 22.00.
It has yet to be officially announced whether the Primera División stadiums will be open to the public. If so, it will mean the return of the fans after more than a year of the coronavirus pandemic.
Tebas has already indicated that occupancy could reach 70% and that 100% would be reached by the end of the current year. With more than a month to go, the first matchday of LaLiga Santander 2021-22 is already fully defined.
